Dr. Curtain and Dr. Cary first met 13 years ago at the University of Melbourne. They soon realised they shared common philosophies based on an unwavering commitment to orthodontic excellence and high quality individualised care.
Many moons, several children and thousands of cases later, Dr. Cary and Dr. Curtain are excited to be joining in practice, where they will continue to help you and your family achieve healthier, brighter and more confident smiles.
Dr. Cary Chien is a highly experienced Melbourne orthodontist, who is well known for his gentle and kind approach.
Cary graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago in 2003. His wide range of experience in general dentistry, spanning both hospital and private practice in Wellington and Auckland, New Zealand, drew him to the joy orthodontics can bring to his patients.
Cary obtained his Orthodontic Specialist qualifications from the University of Melbourne in 2013. This was followed by full time fellowship in Cleft and Craniofacial Orthodontics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, where he conducted research and received further training in management of craniofacial anomalies.
Since returning to Melbourne, Cary has enjoyed private orthodontic practice in Camberwell. Cary has also been a specialist orthodontist on cleft teams at the John Hunter Hospital (NSW), Monash Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital, as well the Royal Dental Hospital.
Cary maintains his keen interest for higher learning and teaching. He is a clinical lecturer at the University of Melbourne, where he is a member of a select group of Melbourne orthodontists entrusted to teach the post-graduate specialist orthodontic program.
Outside of his practice, Cary adores raising his young family, and looks forward to the day he can have some hobbies.
